SIX SOLO SHOWS COMPETITION

This is a competition for 6 separate solo shows in the lower gallery of the Watchung Arts Center, Watchung NJ, during 2011.

The basics are: All works must be hand delivered. No insurance. No nudity. 30% commission. We ask that you deliver, hang, label, write publicity which we will send out. Jim Fuess and the NAG will supervise and help with all aspects of the show.

“You may use the gallery as you see fit”. We expect you to be reasonable and respect the space. This is an attempt to open the gallery up to alternatives to hanging art on the wall. Jim Fuess will make the determination of what is “reasonable”. No sand on the wood floors, no weight that would bring down the ceiling, no large holes in the walls etc. Use your common sense. If your entry is deemed “unreasonable” you will be notified and your fee will be refunded. The Gallery: The lower gallery where your show will be held is 20x15 feet with 12 foot ceilings, track lighting, and a Walker hanging system.

If your idea for your show is complex please provide an explanation of not more than 200 words. We will read the first 40 words to the jurors after which they can decide if they want to hear the whole thing.

Works will be submitted via email only. Please control your file sizes for easy downloads. No file should be larger than 1000 px in any dimension. I would suggest something under 100dpi in jpeg format with image size no larger than 8x10 if you are using inches.

Each image should be:

• Titled clearly
• Either the email itself or a submission sheet must list the title of the jpeg, the corresponding title of the artwork, the artwork dimensions, date it was produced (month,year) and the media.
• Be sure to include your name, address, phone and email contacts with each email message.
• Email submissions to paul@pinkmancreative.com with a copy to jimfuess@comcast.net.

Dates for receipt of materials and announcement of winners:

All materials must be received in hand by June 9, 2010
The Jurying will take place on June 14, 2010

Show dates: January, February, March, June, September, November 2010. We will determine who gets what month.

History: The New Art Group (www.newartgroup.com) is an 18 year old arts group that has done 36 group shows. It is a group consisting currently of 6 New Jersey artists. The group was formed out of the Visual Arts Committee at the Watchung Arts Center (WAC) (www.watchungarts.org)  and were responsible for 7 years for the visual arts exhibitions in the lower and upper galleries. During that time Jim Fuess was the curator at the WAC.

We are now returning to our roots after a 10 year hiatus and working with the WAC to bring a lively roster of artists to the community.
