2012 Seven Solo Exhibition Competition

This is a competition for 7 separate solo shows in the lower gallery of the Watchung Arts Center, Watchung NJ, during 2012.
The basics are: All works must be hand delivered. No insurance. No nudity. 30% commission. We ask that you deliver, hang, label, and write the publicity which we will send out. Jim Fuess and the NAG will supervise and help with all aspects of the show.
“You may use the gallery as you see fit”. We expect you to be reasonable and respect the space. This is an attempt to open the gallery up to alternatives to hanging art on the wall. You may do a traditional show if you want to. If your idea for a show is complex contact Jim Fuess who will make the determination of what is “reasonable”. If your entry is deemed “unreasonable” you will be notified and your fee will be refunded.
The Gallery: The lower gallery where your show would be held is 20x15 feet with 8 foot ceilings, track lighting, and a Walker hanging system.
The WAC is a multi use art center with concerts, music events, comedy, yoga and various art classes which means that a large number of people would see your show. The opening reception will be at the same time as that of the larger upper gallery (30x40).
If you would like to provide an explanation of your entry please limit yourself to 30 words. This will be read to the jurors.
Last year we had 49 submissions for the 6 solo show competitions.
The jurors are:

- Raymond E. Mingst, Artist, curator and co-founder of Curious Matter Gallery, Jersey City

Works will be submitted via email only. Please control your file sizes for easy downloads. No file should be larger than 1000 px in any dimension. I would suggest something under 100dpi in jpeg format with image size no larger than 8x10 if you are using inches.
Each image should be:
- Titled clearly
- Either in the email itself or a submission sheet. Please list the title of the jpeg, the corresponding title of the artwork, the artwork dimensions, date it was produced (month, year) and the media. Media is crucial.
- Be sure to include your name, address, phone and email contacts with each email message.
- Email submissions to paul@pinkmancreative.com with a copy to jimfuess@comcast.net.
Please put these email addresses in your address book so that your notification doesn’t get blocked by a spam filter.
Please send you submission in early so you get our full attention. Jim Fuess and Paul Pinkman who will be curating shows in 2011 and 2012 will see all submissions. If your work comes in at the very last day it might not get the attention it deserves from us.
Dates for receipt of materials and announcement of winners:
All materials must be received in hand by June 8, 2011
The Jurying will take place on June 13, 2011
Show dates: January, February, April, May, June, September, and November 2012. We will determine who gets which month.

History:
The New Art Group (www.newartgroup.com) is a 20 year old arts group that has done over 40 group shows. It is a group consisting currently of 5 New Jersey artists. The group was formed out of the Visual Arts Committee at the Watchung Arts Center (WAC) (www.watchungarts.org) who were responsible for 7 years for the visual arts exhibitions in the lower and upper galleries. During that time Jim Fuess was the curator at the WAC. We have now returned to the WAC.

In 2012 we will be curating 2 shows in the upper gallery. We will bring in an outside curator for a slot in the upper gallery and running a competition for a group of artists to show in the upper gallery. Please visit www.newartgroup.com for further information.
