The Watchung Arts Center: Is a multi use arts facility with an upper and lower art gallery. The Watchung Arts Center also presents quality works in fine arts, exciting music, and comedy events as well as classes in drawing, photography, and yoga.
The Gallery: The lower gallery where your show will be held is 20x15 feet, with track lighting, and a Walker hanging system. The reception in the lower gallery will coincide with that of the upper gallery.
The basics: All works must be hand delivered. No insurance provided. No nudity. 30% commission. We ask that you deliver, hang, label, write publicity. In addition to whatever publicity you do, we will send your publicity out to our lists. Jim Fuess and the NAG will supervise and help with all aspects of the show.
You may exhibit your work within the gallery as you like but we expect you to be reasonable and respectful of the space.
This is an attempt to open the gallery up to alternatives to hanging art on the wall. Jim Fuess will make the determination of what is “reasonable”. Examples of things which will not be allowed:
- No sand on the wood floors,
- no weight that would bring down the ceiling,
- no large holes in the walls etc.
Please be very specific about what you want to do. We don’t want any surprises.
Use your common sense. If your entry is deemed “unreasonable” you will be notified and your fee will be refunded.

Dates for announcement of winners:
- The jurying will take place on October 26, 2009
- The announcement of the winner will be as soon thereafter as is possible.
Show dates: February, May, September, November 2010 we will determine who gets each month.
History: The New Art Group (www.newartgroup.com) is an 18 year old arts group that has done 36 group shows. It is a group consisting currently of 6 New Jersey artists. The group was formed out of the Visual Arts Committee at the Watchung Arts Center (WAC) (www.watchungarts.org) and were responsible for 7 years for the visual arts exhibitions in the lower and upper galleries. During that time Jim Fuess was the curator at the WAC.
We are now returning to our roots after a 10 year hiatus and working with the WAC to bring a lively roster of artists to the community.
